Yes Neil, it was very much a 'pub' despite the name. The licence was simply transferred to the new premises when it was completed. LIkewise the City Arms, White Lion, etc.

Thanks dutchman - why did they redevelop that area? Looking at the Morris Traveller etc. I'm guessing that shot is early '60's? The Tuns appears to be in pretty decent shape? |

I suspect the council wanted to squeeze more retail units into the available space Neil so they could charge more rent and rates.
The original Three Tuns was still trading very successfully before it was knocked down.

The White Horse in Bayley Lane closed just before George VI acceded to the throne but there was another in East Street which was destroyed in the November Blitz.

Welcome to the forum Greeneyes, we look forward to you sharing your reminiscences with us. I used to visit the Market Tavern in the mid 1960, usually before going to the Locarno on a Friday night. It was so busy it was a problem getting any where near the bar so none of the bar staff come to mind but I am sure there will be many that remember them. |
