Hi all.Wave Another DMU has arrived at Hall-Brooks, eliminating yet another steam service. Is this the end of steam? For me, our model depicts this time in the sixties where this is exactly what was happening. At the time for steam spotters like me it was agony, no joke. So for my last model picture on this topic I am not sure which theme tune would be the most appropriate. Dick Barton - Special Agent. or The Coronation Scot I have enjoyed this thread about Railways around Coventry as is obvious from the number of my posts. Sitting in our railway room, looking across at the models, I am able to reminisce to those one time happy days. The year that I got married, was also the year when in August 1968, the last British Rail timetabled steam train ran. The end of one era & the start of another for me in more ways than one. Wave

Aah, the original Derby Lightweight! Thumbs up Coventry was one the first stations it ever visited. I used to call them 'caterpillars' as that is how they looked to me from Warwick Road bridge. They would have made excellent makeshift greenhouses with that huge expanse of glass.

They were probably the best all-round performance loco of any of the classes, but my take on the jubs was just that they received such bad press for their first fifteen years. Regards the coaches, I did have two rakes of four late Stanier (airfix). My Sean has them in store at his home as his first railway was period 1947 to 54. One set are early BR blood & custard & one set full matt LMS maroon. They do look nice but still have the LMS lettering, so are really out of place on our railway. Going to school from Foleshill two days most weeks, I witnessed the demise of the none corridor steam stock, which were replaced by all-maroon Stanier. That was about 1961. Wave

Hello Midland Red, Wave Only just home after a work related duty, but so pleased to see your post about the Jub'. We have four Jub's at 'Hall Brooks' but a few more will always be welcome. On paper, the Jub's were the most common express passenger loco through Coventry, until the Scots & Coronation were being relegated in their final years. Thumbs up Thank you for the picture. Wave

Hello Philip not sure if you would appreciate this photo of the Loco I am Building, been working on it for about three years now, taking a lot longer than I thought . Because its scratch built and no plans it is proving a bit of a challenge ,valve timing etc. although I have never been into model railways I have always been into steam engines I find them fascinating . Hope you did not think of this being a digression , just thought you made have been interested. All the very best. Colin

Hi all Wave Me too, Duchman. Big grin In my kit building era, the only smoke was blue, from my frustration with kit building. I love your posts Colin, so have no fear there. I recall that that both the Southern & LNER had 4-4-2s. I like your well equipt workshop too. The Lancs & Yorks had some 4-4-2s which came into LMS stock at one time.

Thanks Dutchman and Philip for the nice response ,I was not too sure if I was in order to send that photo as I thought it was not Coventry related so I am pleased you enjoyed it. Many thanks to you for that. Colin.

Hi all Wave Preliminary work has now started in preparation for the extention to Longford Park. The goods only junction at Penny Park viaduct is being upgraded to passenger standards. The phone pic shows the none fixed trackwork offerered up, so that we can see what is what, regards work to the viaduct. My grandson is very soaked up with his crucial school work, & so being able to get lost into this project over the coming several weeks, he & I are sure will be as good as a rest. Wave I do realise that it is only a model, accompanied with very vivid imaginations, but I am very grateful for that. Wave Below is a pic of the freight only junction as it was.

Hi Anne, & thank you Tony, Just a couple of pictures of Hall Brooks. Our fictitious railway in Holbrooks. My grandson is busy working on an upgrade & a new extension. His eyesight is much better than mine for fine cutting.

Hi all Wave The heavy engineering is almost complete. Artwork to follow on Monday. My mobile phone is not so good for poor light pictures but this pic just to show the work-in-progress. Quote from Coventry Council Introduction to Holbrooks. : "Council plans show how, crossing Penny Park Lane from Watery Lane, the culverted Hall Brook cuts between Holy Family School and Church to cross Beake Avenue"
