Cheers... sorted! I've also deleted the unused "Computer hints & tips" category, which I'd forgotten had been amalgamated into Information some time ago! |

Additionally, I've now corrected the navigation between topics when viewing within one category. The normal topic index is in reverse date order, as we know, but individual categories, such as Motoring or Search for People are alphabetical, to make finding easier.
And remember the shortcut keys to make your lives easier (only possible on PCs or laptops with a physical keyboard, unfortunately).....
Pressing N moves you to the Next topic.
Pressing P moves you to the Previous topic.
Pressing F takes you to the First post of the topic.
Pressing L takes you to the Last post of the topic.
Pressing the Left arrow takes you to the Previous page within a topic.
Pressing the Right arrow takes you to the Next page within a topic.
to all! |

Our very nice host asked if there was anything we'd like added while he was moving the site to a new location. After a few days the conversation was deleted and as if by magic we got more buttons. If there's anything else you can think of I'm sure it will be considered. |

This week has seen two brand new threads opened, both of them in respect of Coventry car companies from long ago, two not very well known names.
As a result, we have made a small change in the Forum Categories, renaming one as 'Coventry Cars and Motoring'. This has enabled us to take the large number of car and motoring threads out of the 'Industry, Business and Work' category, which had reached over 170 in number!
Although the original idea was to make the "new" category one for the Coventry car industry, it was felt that it should also include other motoring topics, including motor cycles, garages, car clubs, etc.
We hope it will make it a little easier to search for anything to do with motors from and in the city. |

Just a minor update this time. In addition to the smiley face icons, any post (past, present or future) containing the characters traditionally used for happy, sad or "winky" faces will now automatically display as those icons.
So :-) or :) will become :-( or :( will become and ;-) will become

Just a little eBay raid this time - 14 extra old Coventry photos. (Order by Most recently added first to see the new additions.)
Not many, but I'm quite pleased with a couple of them - particularly the classic view of Spon End Arches, and the Railway Station Entrance. |

A "new" feature for users of 'phones, iPads & any other touch-screen device.
Members using laptops or computers with a mouse or touchpad will probably already know this, but if you hover your cursor over the little green number next to the "thumbs up" icon, a little pop-up will appear listing the names of those who have "liked" your post.
However, it was brought to my attention recently that when using a touch-screen device, touching the number did not display the list. After experimenting, I found that this indeed does not work with numbers or text - only images. So, the number you now see is not a "text" number, but an image with the number "embedded" within it. This is why it now looks slightly different.
So, those viewing on their 'phones & tablets can now touch the number to make a small window pop up, which you can click to see the list of members who have liked your post. Cheers! |

Having only a tablet I had never heard of this, but just trying clicking the numbers now does nothing at all, Chrome or Samsung browsers.

I never knew about it either but I have just tried it on my iPad. Could not see at first but see now the number comes up bigger and the names are above a little box that says "share" etc, quite faint. Thanks, Rob. |

I just found out how to do it on my Android tablet, do a long press on the number and a big white menu box pops up, it looks like a normal menu box except it has the favouritor's name above the usual menu stuff.

For those of you who have a pair of those lovely, fashionable 3D specs (you know, the ones with a red and a blue 'lens'), I've added a couple of lovely old Stereoview photos of Bond's Hospital....

Me again! I hope these two little updates will be of use to you....
The first is one that's been hidden away in Forum fun time! for a while, but I suspect that it's not seen by many, so I've moved it into the Useful links page instead. If you ever see a date and wonder what day of the week it fell on, then my home-made Day of the Week Calculator might be for you.
Also new on the Useful links page is something that I feel will be used a lot more.... Old Coventry Map Scans. It's been hidden for a while now, but that was because I've been a little bit naughty! When a certain Old Maps website announced their disappearance a couple of years ago there was just a couple of months before it went altogether. So I got busy screen-shotting a few of the useful ones - just the Coventry area - and after joining together thousands of pieces they can now be made available once more, but to logged-in forum members only. Fingers crossed that nobody from O.S. finds out!!! |
