Hi, Wave I do try to enjoy whatever I get up to. Life is for living, for as long as we are able. I have never known a lengthy period where I have not enjoyed it. I am sure that so much of that is thanks to Pam. Today, is the best weather day of this bank holiday so we both aim to make the best of it. Best wishes to you Happy

Hi Philip, We of the senior brigade travel free in Perth from 9 o'clock till 3 in the afternoon, you have to show your Seniors Card of course, but it is very handy if you want to nip up to a distant shop in the area. Having said that, do they do that in Coventry? Also we are given a free train trip further afield but only one way. What bright spark thought that one up I will never know. Obviously they don't care how you get home!!! Roll eyes

I am afraid I have no sense of direction Rkid. I get lost even in IKEA, so the chance of me ever getting home from a one-way trip would be zilch! Avagooday all Wave

Hello Wave From time to time, our train operators do have special offers, on top of the senior card discounts. The West Midlands transport group 'Centro' give free travel on all trains within the West Midlands county to residents of the West Midlands. A couple of weeks ago, a train operator had a promotion desk at Coventry, where I was able to travel to & from Reading, first class for £9.

Hello all Wave To day, Pam & I decided to visit the Great Central (heritage) railway in Leicestershire. A relaxed car journey of 85 miles there & back. I have not had a ride there for fourteen years, so a trip was well overdue. I will post some pics that I hope will tell their own story. Other than the fact that the mid-line stations are all what are called island platforms, the general impression being there is as close as to our railways around Coventry as any preserved railway anywhere. Wave We enjoyed a very nostalgic, as well as a fun day out. Wave ps. The baby (I hope) along with the bike were part of the station furniture. Thumbs up

Sounds good to me, at least you can get home again. Thanks for that Philip. A good holiday for anyone 'going home again' would be a rail experience all around Britain and I think I would really enjoy that. Wave Thumbs up Nice photos Philip. What's with the pram Pam ? Wave

Hello all Wave A picture of my groovy travel companion as we hurtle from Rugby to Crewe yesterday aboard the 10.04 service. We started from Coventry on the 9.01 to Rugby. We enjoyed our train day out so much that we hope to do the southern section on Monday next. What a value ticket for £14! We travelled back via Wolverhampton to B'ham New St, so as to then travel to Nuneaton via the new Coleshill station and come across the fly-over into Nuneaton. We also stopped off at Sutton Coldfield where I visited Pete & his team at my one time railway model shop. For nearly a decade, Coventry was void of an enthusiasts model railway shop, catering for the serious modeller & Pete's shop is so close to the college where I was teaching a decade ago. Pete did not just sell trains. He promoted you or me, the customer, as a modeller. That makes all of the difference. Wave

Firstly I laughed too at the one way, with Dreamtime reminded me of that song, we're on the road to nowhere come on inside. Philip loved to hear and see your day trips, with your photos that pram I used to have one when I was a kid to play with I think it was mine when a baby. As for talking negatively about the town so do others in the paper, if we didn't criticise we would all still be living in caves, most times negative brings positive, also shows bigwigs we care and have an opinion letting them know when they've gone wrong, Coventry people are renowned for not putting up with anything. I always look for the beauty of this town which I've shown to fellow gardeners around the world and UK, our country walks the canal walks, Coombe Abbey, our old churches, our countryside, Corley Rocks, nature reserve, they all love the photo blogs I've put on, USA folk want to visit here on their menu now, one couple from Blackpool didn't even know we have a motor car museum, the husband is a vintage car fanatic, said they will come down for the car museum and vintage rally. What do our road signs have on them compared to other cities towns, approaching Coventry. How far out is Coventry advertised on road signs is it still 30 miles, train station could put little pictures of cathedral, motor museum, etc. I agree with you on Coventry being a good central base for travel and visiting local little towns.

Hi all Wave I am off out with my grandson again today, using the 'Midland day-ranger ticket'. The forecast is dry for the day. Whilst we both have a general idea of getting to Hereford & Shrewsbury, it is not cast in stone, so if there are delays or hiccups we just go with the flow. That is the big value of a wanderer ticket. We wonder where we are going to wander. Have we just invented a trade name, a wonderful wonder wander ticket? Sorry, it might be my age! I have not had pills either! What ever you are doing today, have a good one. Wave Cheers Big grin Thumbs up
