The Coventry Maudslays had unique bodywork and their AEC Engines were larger than the AEC Engines in the MetCam bodied CVA6s Fleet numbers 1-98. Wish I had saved one

As a matter of curiosity, are there many lady drivers on the buses in Coventry?

Don't know how many lady bus drivers there are but I'm sure the number will increase and on HGVs . And why not?
Just old and knackered

Now safely in preservation, I took this photo here of a 1973 Daimler Fleetline from the "Coventry Transport" fleet! It is seen standing at a museum near Birmingham, while attending an event there last year!

Looks like a very old one as my father was issued with DD22585 in the late 40`s.

For PSV driver badges, see this site. The DD series was issued in either Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, or Worcestershire, and numerically it certainly appears to be from the 1940s.

It was withdrawn from service in May 1965 and sold for scrap to a dealer in South Yorkshire in July of that very same year. There were only nine of these particular Maudslays in the "Coventry Transport" fleet (numbered 117 -125) and sadly not one of them survive today? (I personally would give anything to be able to travel on one of these, or even just to be able to see one up close, but I just have to accept that it's never ever going to happen?).
Hello, I remember these. A driver that I knew well, Mr Ford, who had driven for CCT for many years, had his only serious mishap when driving one of these. The brakes were very slow acting he told me & he went into the back of a van whilst going along the London Rd. Then on a separate occasion, nearly came to grief coming out of the Pool-Meadow opposite Priory High school. He said that he literally had to stand on the brakes. Any comments please? Mr Ford is sadly no longer alive, but one of his conductors, Mr Tuggy aged 90 is still alive but very frail. He recalls the London Rd accident. ps. Thank you for the lovely picture, just as though it was yesterday.

I think there has been a "norzup" Quoted headline "A BLUNDERING bus driver could have done worse than follow the advice on the side of his double decker". Silly Billy.

I have to say a big "THANK YOU" to "Presbus Publishing" and especially to "Busman" (Roger Burdett) for yet another brilliant Coventry Buses Running Day and Transport Fair at Coventry Rugby Club yesterday, as it appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed a lot by all who attended! The sales stalls and cafe area inside the Rugby Club were absolutely packed out with people at one point and from around midday onwards, every bus that went out on a trip looked to be virtually fully loaded, which is always great to see! My attached photo here shows the 1940 Coventry Transport Daimler COG5, seen standing in Millenium Place. I did three round trips on just this bus alone and although there were plenty of other lovely old buses and coaches there in attendance to ride on, it's this particular bus that just happens to be a personal favourite of mine! If it wasn't for Busman Roger, then it's very very doubtful that this lovely old bus would have ever been fully restored and made roadworthy again and so he'll never be able to be thanked enough for doing that!!!

I recall that at the gliding club at Husbands Bosworth a bus of this type (ex Coventry) was used as a glider tug and had the rear body removed and a winch mounted. It then disappeared and, I'm told, was going to be restored - is this the same bus? Roger Burdett, is he a local historian with interests other than buses? Reason I ask is I met a man at Newark tractor show 2 years ago of the same name and had a knowledge of the Ota tractor which was built in what was the Radenite battery factory on Foleshill Rd. Thumbs up
