The pub was formerly called the Bell and was 3 storeys. For some reason they took the roof and the top floor off. There is a possibility that the building was a timber frame building clad with a single skin of brick. This process of cladding would often accelerate the decay of the timbers and maybe the bricks couldn't support 3 storeys. |

Is anyone on here bidding on that Ford's/Cheylesmore postcard on eBay? If so, then I'll not bid it up any higher - I've been outbid once already! |

I've been tempted by it in the past, but my buying days are over I'm afraid - so, not me neither! |

There's been a lot of interest in Coventry images and books recently. It's pushing the price up I suspect that authors are collecting a few to illustrate new books for the City of Culture? Old stuff can be copyright free and cheaper than getting a publishing license from the Herbert or Francis Frith. I'm mostly concentrating on very old books with drawings in but a few photos are useful to put the sketches into more realistic proportions. |

Although similar to #24 this close up shows the extent of broken windows etc.
Just saw this photo - amazing. I only remember it much later when it was restored. We used to go to a pottery shop nearby and bought a lovely Prinknash Abbey coffee set from there in the very early 70's. I always wondered if tourists who came to see the new and old cathedrals and that area ever got over to Fords. |
