A poignant time for me, one year on.
I've learnt so much, getting a balance between duties & pleasure.
I'm no slave to my kitchen, but am able to do what's necessary regards good home cooking, eating out or convenience food.
Today, boiled egg breaky, with toast & marmalade. All done & dusted before eight thirty. A bought Cornish pasty for dinner today. A very easy day today. I rarely spend more than thirty minutes on food preparation.
I did my own slight variation on a chicken tikka masala on Monday, using fresh chicken breast, yoghurt & spices. It was yabadabadoo! Even better when I finished it up on Tuesday. I had a visitor just as I was finishing it off. Sorry, I said, all gone! |

Pam would be so proud. You never know how you'll cope until you're tested but she knew that you'd be surrounded by friends because you're so generous of your own friendship.
I do a lot of meals that take longer to cook but don't actually take much prep. I do bigger batches that then can be reheated for a number of meals and or frozen for another day. I make a soup that I've been unable to resist having for breakfast sometimes. In my defence it has 4 of my 5 a day in just one bowl, 5 if I have a slice of seedy bread with it, but I do feel naughty. |

Hi all,
Getting a bit straighter here at home, still loads to get done, but recently came across a photo in a bag of Pam's.
I made my Michael a sit & ride on toy which I hope you like. It's obviously from me when you see him sitting on it. The picture is from where my wendy house is now.
For the technical amongst us, it's an 0-4-0, with very limited steering. It also doubled as his toy box. |

A year ago by date, a year by day was yesterday.
It's not a lot to show for a lifetime that ended. A bowl of flowers & box of ash. |

You're so much braver and better than me. I made an effort to not remember the actual dates I lost those I love but I jingle my bells whenever I think of them. I'll give Pam a little peel too, though I expect she got her wings on day one. |

Hi Helen, hi all.
Pam stood by me through thick & thin, just like most wives do with their hubbies.
There is a theme though that goes beyond. Steeped in stats as I was for most of my working life, I was aware that until new stats were published in 2015, wives outlived their hubbies by nearly eight years here in the UK.
So I did everything to give me peace of mind that Pam would be ok without me. Home & financially. That was a conscious effort on my part.
Pam was never a financial guru, but she made sure that all of our domestic business stuff was all up to date. She was very good at the small print stuff, the online form filling & so on. The groceries too!!!! I do miss her now for that.
Pam so loved her NHS work, that she carried on right past her state pension age, sixty for Pam. So she decided to defer receiving her state pension for several years. She knew it would give her an enhanced pension when she did retire.
Do you know who receives that now!
So not only did she take care of me when she was here on Earth, she's carrying on now. A very substantial addition to my pension. She didn't realise that I inherited her deferred state pension until three months before she passed away.
What joy, she shouted here at home. |

Good afternoon,
Dinner is served.
Cornish pasty on a bed of veg.
Now, I can't pretend that this pasty is anything like the first pasty that I ever had, I was about eight years old, on Polzeath beach, where my aunt, who we were staying with in Tregonetha, she had made eight of these things that I had never heard of before, or that it compares with some of the finest pasties from a Cornish butchers shop, but, four of these pasties in a pack for £2, from Morrison's, delivered to my home in Coventry, is fabulous. 50p each!

The street, Sewall Highway, where I grew up.
Photo from Rak Jackson, Facebook.
Sewall Highway was in two distinct halves. The Bell Green end & the Wyken end. The one time allotments & Blackberry Lane separated the two halves. I lived in the Wyken end, close to the Devon. The picture is also the Wyken end, near to the Ansty Rd (often referred to as the Pippin). |

Thank you Helen,
You're a nice lady, a very nice lady, a very very nice lady.
I used a small frying pan. Half boiled the small potatoes & one small carrot.
Added them after I had sizzled the peppers, a couple of small tomatoes, then a lid on the frying pan to let it all marinate. I warmed the eating plate, then placed the tuna-mayo in the middle so it slightly warmed the tuna, before I added the stir-fry. |

I am so impressed with the table mat and tablecloth, Philip. Good for you, not resorting to a tray on your lap in front of the telly! |

Thank you so much, Anne.
I'm not a big tele fan these days. YouTube I watch on tele, but that's about all. Oh I'm silly! One evening, I had a small Cornish pasty which I enjoyed in the lounge, pretending that I was at Polzeath beach, having tuned into the live beach camera. Oh I'm silly. |

Imagination is great Philip but don't go swimming in the sea before the pasty's fully digested I also hoped you tipped the waiter or next time he'll stick his thumb in your gravy. |
