Much Park Street 1937 with the school adjacent number 81. I tried posting it as one image but it then appears too small to see. Roll eyes

Many thanks to NeilsYard for the photo of the chippy. My grandparents, mum and two uncles lived above it from about 1943 for a few years. I showed it to mum and she said the top floor left side window was the bedroom she shared with her 2 brothers. They exchanged accommodation with the owners and ended up living in Radford. Mum tells me that there was an iron staircase outside leading up to the 1st floor and an internal staircase up to the two bedrooms.

Thanks to Cliff Berwick. Helen, you might like this one - MPS, Whitefriars Gate just behind the COVENTRY banner - some great detail. I think that is The Rose pub to the left of that. Acccording to Fred's Real Ale Rambles, that closed in 1910'ish, so dates the postcard.

Thanks Neil. I have that picture but newer versions are often higher resolution than the first wave of photos so keep 'em coming. I'm often zooming in to the distance to grab a few blurry details. For Much Park Street I know that there is at least one better photo at Birmingham of a Godiva procession that shows more of the end of the street. I must organise a visit there eventually. What I really need though is an early sketch or sketches of the south side of the road.

Nice pictures there of the relocation. The first photo make it easier to put the stone house into perspective with the other side of the road. Thumbs up

The gatehouse is a real bodge of a building and was so, even in the oldest images I have for it. Clearly it has been constructed from bits rescued from all over the place.

Hello. New Member here! I have searched your forum with much interest. So far I have been unable to find pictures of "Earls Court" in Much Park Street. Census records show that my great grandfather and his family lived at no.11 1901 and 1911. Many pictures of Much Park Street which have been great, but any images of Earls Court to attach to our family records would be very much appreciated. All the best Phil

This appears in the Francis-Barnett thread
On 19th Jan 2013 7:32pm, Catshed said: Here is an image from a book of the first Triumph works and it looks the same building as the one in Annewiggy's photo, now this might have been taken over by Lea Francis after Triumph moved down the road to Priory Street. There were quite a few companies that occupied companies making the same thing. This photo has the description; 4 Earls Court, Much Park Street In my eyes that makes Annewiggy's photo correct for the street.

Hi Phil, I've a feeling that I've seen a better picture of the building fronting Earl's Court but I can't remember where. Bits of it appear in other images. Britain From Above have several shots of the road after the war, that show the building from the front. Log in to zoom. Britain From Above There are no images of the court itself that I know of but it's not something I've looked for. Exploring the factory (Gloria Works or Lea Francis) might elicit something. I believe that the court house numbering was a relic of the court's origins. It was a narrow yard in 1850 called Ralph's Yard and there were small properties on both sides. By the time the factory was built only 3 or 4 remained. If I spot the picture of the building on Much Park Street I'll post it or a link. Wave
