Type Cow Lane into the Library Pictures site and there are a few pictures of the record library interior.

Not very good pictures Helen, I don't know if this is the area of Cow Lane you are looking for.

Here is another one, they are from a tatty little scrapbook in the collection I bought. They are actually in the online newspapers but the copies on there are even worse.

Thanks Anne! Yes, the top two are duplicates of good ones on Coventry Digital but the third photo I've not seen before and is a good angle on the north side of the road. That photo is the only one I've seen showing the pub the Bablake Boy and the next building before the factory complex. Thumbs up Curiously the Bablake Boy was clad in stone at least to the upper floor window, where most of Coventry buildings were brick. One of the few others was at the other end of Cow Lane on the north corner of Little Park Street. Built from the old wall material? It's the south side of Cow Lane that is partially missing. The west end is nicely covered by various sketches and photos. I've got bits and pieces for most of the rest but the factory replaced about half of the remaining buildings still shown as brick and timber in 1898. Troughton even sketched part of a timber building on the corner of Little Park Street but sadly never sketched round the corner on the south side. Brick buildings replaced timber on that whole corner but were themselves knocked down for the big Bushill's building. There might be more in their records at the Herbert. It's where I found the sketch of their shop and entrance on the south side of Cow Lane. The sketch shows the early factory building which was originally a ribbon factory.

Thanks to Cliff, I re-read this thread and noted the link to Mick Billings story in the memories section. Is Mick still on here? Just wondered if he knew we have an image of Court 16 LPS on the LPS thread (it's referenced in Dutchman's post #2 so was some time ago - 2011!)

An interesting shot of demolition work on Union Street. Shows some intriguing remains of old properties but also, in the centre rear, a view of Cow Lane Chapel. Post copied from topic Union Street on 23rd Feb 2022 10:12 am

This one just turned up on FB. I think it shows the view up from Cheylesmore towards the Cow Lane junction (though never seen it referred to as Childsmore before!) - similar to the images captured in post #28. Christchurch in the background.

Cow Lane Chapel, attended by George Eliot when she lived with the Miss Franklins at Nant Glyn, Warwick Row. Their father was the Minister and she based one of her clergymen on him in Scenes of Clerical Life, perhaps lesser known than some of her novels but intriguing nonetheless!

Nice set of photos that answer a few questions I had about both the Cow Lane building and Charterhouse mill. Double thumbs up

An interesting version that may be a copy of something very early. The man with the umbrella is a bit suspect though. There were buildings on the left and the north corner of Cow Lane from the early 1800s, so for them to be missing suggests an older date. Note also the missing brick extension on the right.
