Prof,
The last time I was walking through the Arcade was to pay the last £2 on my Singer Sewing machine but the shop had gone. Wonder what the interest would be from 1974. I would add there was no notice on the door as to where they had moved to. Psss... and I don't really want to know, but I felt a sense of guilt at the time.
BTW, the stars look like the formation on the Australian flag. I am presuming that's what JW was thinking.
Hope all is well with you folks and families. GYJ (get your jabs). I have seen a few t-shirts with that emblazoned on the front. Someone is making some money out of that little venture.

I am bored, at last have the decorators in after our plumbing problems and living with plastered walls for a couple of months. Can't do anything round the house and it's raining, so I have been looking through the newspapers and found some interesting shops, mostly in Smithford Street.

That photo of D Di's is probably the one on King William Street because the reflection in the window is of an opening eg Nelson Street. |

John Perris was at number 65. Opposite the building next door (east) to Stroud's. Thanks to Heathite and his directories. |

One of the best shops in its day was Billy Lane's Tackle in Much Park Street. On my introduction to fishing in 1962, I spent a lot of time there.

Hello all. New member and not sure where to post this! I was born 1950 in Coventry. In the mid/late 50`s my father opened a radio/ television shop on Earlsdon Avenue, North. Anybody have any memories of R.A. Aston and Sons? I can`t think what the street no. was. Thank you. |

Hi Coventrian, welcome to the forum
Thanks to Heathite's directories I see that in 1960 there is an R A Aston at 190 Earlsdon Avenue but not in 1955. It's not mentioned as a shop but I imagine quite a few were missed. Hope that helps. |
