Hello & thank you for that Anne. Hence the part empty car park at Acocks Green, oh & Olton that used to be full to overflowing. From where I am now, I wish that I had gone the way of my ambition as a teenager to be an archaeologist, but the school head said, "No money in that". My work chums did describe me as the outdoor accountant, the amount of time spent working on construction & we did have on two occasions to suspend activities whilst bones & relics were investigated that the machines had unearthed. I'm just home from a midweek chapel service, but what a treat for me to be in conversation with you. Pass the port please, someone.

I often wonder that with all of the contact names on the posts, how many of us know each other from the past? I have identified a few members that I'm sure I knew in my childhood, both from schools, work dance halls etc, but there must be a lot more.

I agree, Mike. When I was at Ullathorne I used to go to the youth clubs for dancing, including All Souls, St. Osburg's, St. Georges in Coundon and a few others. Obviously, the Locarno on Saturday morning and later on in the evenings. I occasionally went roller skating in Bedworth with my friend Cathy Branagh, whose sister lived out that way. I also loved the White Lion jazz club at the Leofric Hotel. Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry and many other rockers and blues players. Also took the odd trips to Brum to the Whisky a Go Go where I saw a fantastic Spencer Davies concert with a baby Stevie Winwood on vocals. I play his Arc of a Diver album regularly. Keep on Runnin, Steve! Many, many concerts at the University of Warwick, where I worked. John Mayall, Cream and some of the best or fledgling best bands and musicians of the 60's. I feel very lucky to have been a teenager then. Alexa sometimes drives me crazy but I love that she can pull up any song from the past for me.

Hi Linda. Did you ever go to the Aero Club at B'ham airport or to the Belfrey? I saw Gino Washington and the Ram Jam band at the Belfrey. To enable them to have a late licence, they gave a curry on a paper plate, but hardly anyone ate it !!! Also saw Marty Wilde there in his twilight years, but he was really good live.

I had to look up the difference between Mods and Rockers.

You are not old enough then Helen. Rockers, motorbikes, leathers and greasy. Mods, scooters, but more neatly dressed and short hair. Not happy in the same room or even beach together but made great efforts to actually do that. Roll eyes Roll eyes

It was before my time but Rod Stewart threw me. Long hair, sometimes wore leather and I just couldn't imagine him on a scooter.

Sorry about the Mike, Mick - that's my husbands name. Gino Washington and the Ram-Jam-Band, waving his face towel, that brought back memories. I never did go to those clubs you mentioned. Sometimes you just went some place with the people who had transport. My boyfriend - now my husband - had a Diana Durkopp scooter and we went all over the place on that. A few people had bubble cars and a friend in Norwich had an Isetta, so uncomfortable and scary.

Hello, I do love reading the posts on our forum. No matter the topic. Picking the bones of the Arden Ballroom in Bedworth post, where I can feel the delight of one member in awe reading the posts of others. We tell it as it is. None of us would make politicians hey! Please carry on. I pretend that we are all sitting in a sumptuous lounge, because that's how it feels. Thank you all for your contributions.

Well, that would be nice. Make mine a Bristol Cream Sherry Philip. Make it special as it's Father's Day here today.

We can order stuff? Make mine a Cumberland Sausage batch and an orange Tango Lol My youth was discos and nightclubs but I have very few fond memories of them. Though it was a good era for music.

I won't order anything at the moment thank you as I am stuffed from yesterday's bbq. My era was 60's round Coventry. Saw a lot of bands at Coventry Theatre. Later into the 60's a drink in one of the town pubs and then the Locarno or the Lanchester dance hall. Sometimes the Matrix and then when someone had a car a bit farther to the Steering Wheel at Hinckley. The pub by Allesley on the A45 (can't remember the name) or even the Swan at Yardley. There were also various pubs around the districts like the Walsgrave who would have a group or disco on, sorry I keep thinking of more, there were so many Saturday nights ! Ooh the Baginton Oak, the first place we went to with the lights that illuminated your white clothes !

The Swan at Yardley, what a great place. I saw a young Fleetwood Mac playing live there.
