To my mind there is no finer display of Coventry's past history than the historical characters of rich heraldic carvings on Coventry's Council house, and now carries the wounds of the biggest battle they ever fought by weapons they had no vision of, it would be a very sad day indeed for Coventry if ever they were altered in any way. Deep down we are mindful of that as this forum shows, a deep heritage that others can only envy.

A splendid view of the Council House, sadly spoiled by the 'carbuncle' now thankfully gone!

Is it, as I imagine, on the corner of Hay Lane. I must say I never remember seeing it! We do not look upwards enough. Clever of you to spot it, Midland Red.

Searching for info on line, photos of the carvings on the Council House, I found this picture, reputedly by Look Around Ann! (Can this be the Forum Annewiggy perhaps.) It claims to be Peeping Tom.

No, that one's not me Prof, but I was looking yesterday and I came across this site which says it is Peeping Tom, even if it is misspelt as Pepping Tom! Coventry Society

I feel ashamed, Coventrian born and bred, and had no idea there was Peeping Tom on the Council House clock tower. No-one ever pointed it out. Thanks Midland Red and Annewiggy also for the excellent photo. What a treasure the Council House is for us, we who love Coventry!
