Hi all Wave Its turned out nice again. Henry Hall & His Orchestra - The Teddy Bear's Picnic (1932) Can you imagine listening to this on local radio, driving to work in the morning? This was my favorite record as a child. (I think that it still is listening to it now). Oh my Lol

Excellent find dutchman - what memories! When I heard this tune on the wireless at 5 pm on a Saturday night it was time for the football results. This meant that I had to sit quietly for what seemed like hours whilst mum wrote down the football results and dad checked his Vernons football coupon. (Does anyone remember the Vernons Girls?) Oh my

Hi Tricia. Wave I remember all of that, & if I was at home, having to look for a pencil for dad to mark off the draws. Hectic! Mum was never home until after six with her shops to see to. Wave

A week yesterday I had a call from Keith Wedgebury at BBC C & W who wanted me to talk about Collop Monday on Vic Minett's show. I was glad that I was unavailable as I hadn't got the foggiest what he was on about. I know now but without looking it up has anyone come across Collop Monday before. I compiled an interactive slide show for our Bedworth heritage centre a few years ago featuring radio/TV of the 1950s. It included a large number of theme music which I have as wav. files. Is there anyway I can easily put some of these on the forum? For the older ones: Words to the Whirligig song Whirligig, Whirligig: Round and round we go Whirligig Whirligig: Time to say "Hello!" Turnip, Hank and HL want us all to know It's welcome to Whirligig - and on with the show! Whirligig, Whirligig: Come and join the fun Whirligig Whirligig: Room for everyone Steve's at the Joanna, Hank's behind the gun When Geoffrey gets his box of tricks - The Show has begun! Whirligig, Whirligig: Boys and girls agree Whirligig Whirligig: That's the show to see Turnip, Hank and HL join us after tea Oh one hour of Whirligig is the hour for me. And for the slightly younger (not much) Over the points, over the points, over the points, over the points The 6.5 Special's steamin' down the line, The 6.5 Special right on time. Coal in the boiler burnin' up'n bright, Rollin' and a-rockin' through the night, My heart's a-beatin' 'cos I'll be meetin' The 6.5 Special at the station tonight. Hear the whistle blowin' 12 to the bar. See the lights a-glowin' bright as a star. Now the wheels a-slowin', can't be far. Over the points, over the points, over the points, over the points The 6.5 Special's right on time. Coal in the boiler burnin' up'n bright, Rollin' and a-rockin' through the night, My heart's a-beatin' 'cos I'll be meetin' The 6.5. Special at the station tonight. The 6.5 Special better not be late, The 6.5 Special platform 8, The train starts a-brakin' hard as can be, The station is a-shakin' like a tree' And I won't be missin' that special kissin' When the 6.5 Special brings my baby to me.

Hi Philip, We also used to have a panic looking for a pencil in our house. Oh my Dad was convinced that one Saturday he would get the eight draws, but it never happened Wave

Hi Tricia re the Vernon Girls. When my Gary was playing drums with the Countdowns, he did a gig in Bedworth, at I think the Co-op Hall, or could have been the Civic Hall, not sure. Anyway the Vernons Girls were on the same bill and he said they came out with some language that turned the air blue. Apparently one of them got her stiletto heel stuck in the stage floor... the amount of times we did that in the paving slabs Tricia! Wink Thumbs up

The only thing I remember about the Vernon Girls was that they were a group of girls who worked at Vernons Pools and got together to sing. I remember that the majority of them appeared to wear very modern glasses that set a trend for women. Yes Jan, we often got our stiletto heels stuck in cracks in paving slabs........ the good old days hey! Thumbs up

Didn't one of the Vernons Girls marry Marty Wilde? I have a feeling another one married Joe Brown. Must have been the Co-op Hall in Nuneaton, the Civic Hall in Bedworth has always had a good stage.

Both Marty Wilde and Joe Brown did indeed marry Vernons Girls (only one each, I think!)
