Helen, I tried to buy but had the response that vendor was on holiday. Couldn't make any further progress.

Sorry to hear that, argon. The reason I spotted the card was because I was waiting for one I wanted about a week ago but got the holiday message. I put it in my basket and kept trying a few times each morning and evening in case the shop opened early and I got gazumped. I finally bought it yesterday at about 7 in the morning and thought I'd look through all the vendor's others and there it was. I guess the owner of the shop has been in and out a few times.

Not to do with the Godiva Harriers, but to do with The Butts Stadium. My dad used to take me, in the early 1950's, to watch the cycling. Reg Harris and Lloyd Binch are 2 names that stick in my memory. As a young lad, it was very difficult to understand "Pursuit Racing". The two cyclists gently rode around to the far side of the track, then would seemingly seem to try to stand still on their bikes. All of a sudden, one would go, then the race was on.

Some interesting shots here posted with permission from Michael A Jones on FB. It’s another one of those areas that survived (these amazingly are dated 2001!) but there are very few images of. I know Colin (Harrier) will like these (or not with the state it’s in). As mentioned before on here, I used to watch my brother-in-law race for Coventry Olympic Cycling team in the early 80's - difficult to believe it is like this now.

Is that the bike track, turned to gravel, and the athletics track turned to grass? Very sad!

Yes Johnnie, though it all went soon after for the 'new' Cov RFC ground.

That is so sad! I presume all the grass on the former running track grew so well from all my blood, sweat and tears?

I used to ride my pushbike to Sunday athletics training, and one day got there early, and a school mate who raced with the bike club suggested I had a go on his bike. So he timed me on a flying lap. Unfortunately, I had no idea what a fixed wheel bike would do if I stopped pedalling! I flew over the handlebars, hit the tarmac and scored a very nasty gravel rash. He was impressed both by my time - and my swallow dive!
