April 28th is going to be the first-ever World Art Deco Day, according to the Art Deco Society UK (well-worth following on Twitter).

Thank you Belushi, for this great piece of information. I'll put it in my diary.

It is even more of a pity when it is realised that curved glass aluminium double glazed units are available for exactly this style of building. The aluminium frames seem far less bulky than the UPVC variety. There is a business in Kent that specialises in this kind of thing, they have a complete gallery of the Art Deco buildings they have replaced the glazing for (not sure if I am allowed to put a link).

Links are fine Fourmilier - there's no anti-commercial policy here, like the BBC! Wink

The boss has given you the green light Fourmilier to post the link. Get it on pdq, I'm itching to see the gallery please. Thumbs up

With the approval of the Moderators, here is a link to the Art Deco gallery of The Heritage Window Company. Much slimmer and less obtrusive than uPVC frames (in my opinion).

Thank you, Fourmilier, what wonderful photos - the buildings look fresh and beautiful.

I've got an idea that the house with the three blue vertical stripes on the front wall is a new build. I'm sure it featured on Grand Designs in 2007, it's located in Goldaming, Surrey. It was on the market in 2019 for £1.6million. Jealous From Cheddleton.

The first building (with the couple holding the model of their home) is in St Mildred's Ave, Birchington-on-Sea. It's magnificent, but sadly stands alone in a sea of hip roofed bungalows and dowdy semis. Many Art Deco houses in Coventry still exist, but their character has been completely lost through later 'improvements' (one property in Asthill Grove comes particularly to mind). There is an often missed gem in Humphrey Burton Road that still has it's original windows. There are also a number of houses in Cheylesmore (particularly in Daventry Road and Benedictine Road) that might have much of their original character restored just be changing the windows to something more fitting - I'd love one of the owners of these properties to be bold enough to do just this.

Unfortunately due to the cost of the replica windows I cannot see many people paying to have them fitted to older houses, also like much of Cheylesmore now many of these houses are private rentals and all most landlords are interested in is maximum profit for minimum cost. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Brilliant - if I was having a house built this would be the style - beautiful lines and completely ageless, in my opinion anyway.

Not as far as I know - it's the other side of Hertford Street that's planned for demolition for the City Centre South project.

Our homes in Roland Mount were classified as Art-Deco. Pam & I were the last to retain the curved glass bay windows. Ours went in 2002.

It has been so long since I have responded to any article. The one building that stands out in my mind as typical art deco is Agers on Corporation Street which I believe is still in business. Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona
