Hello - I'm back at last after a year's absence but I haven't forgotten about you all. I am now interested in Thomas Yeoman. I understand that he was responsible for the Coventry Canal after Brindley was dismissed because the money simply ran out. I can find out very little about him but notice that there is a building by the side of the Coventry canal. I am not sure if it was named after him or if he actually lived there. Any ideas please? Frances Thumbs up

Frances Other than having his name on a house at the basin, I don't think he was much different to Brindley, they both had too many canals on the go at the same time. Brindley wasn't sacked for loss of money, he was sacked for non-attendance on several occasions, and his manner.

Frances They paid something like £130 an acre for a meadow, but only £80 an acre for arable land when they built the canals, but each £100 share turned to £700 a share within twelve months. Two boats could carry 40/50 tons of iron or coal.

Smile Thank you very much. It is good to be hearing from you again. I am now on another project (18th century) and it is ironic that now I have the time to undertake some research, I cannot go into Coventry because of the Lockdown. It is so nice to be in touch. Thanks. Frances Wave
