Hi JohnJB.
I don't know where the foundry was but the maps from the Library of Scotland might help here. Most areas had a sprinkling of small shops and people would have travelled into the city centre for more serious shopping. The Stoney Stanton Road would certainly have had a mixture of shops.

Good morning Shinda, and welcome to our forum! I hope that Jim will eventually spot your question, but he hasn't logged in for over a month now, so he's not one of the regulars (or addicts, perhaps!), like some of us.

Hello Shinda,
A welcome from me too. I was half asleep when I first saw your post. It's been a noisy night in many parts of the UK. I was storm watching during the early hours.
Pull up a chair.

Oh yes, I remember you Chhinder, and they were all good memories. I see you are living in Canada now and I have been living here in Crete, Greece for the past 20 years. I would really like to catch up with your days after the Morris and enclose my e-mail so we can piece together all the news.
[mod note - I've deleted your visible email and sent Shinda a private message including it. We generally advise people to not share real emails on the forum comments because it may be used by spammers or worse. The forum emails use a dummy email and can only be replied to via the forum. I hope that you both have a productive chat badger

Hi Shindy, I have sent you a personal message. It seems we have a very good administrator and doing a fine job of protection from hackers. We will be in contact somehow soon even if it means jumping on a plane and meeting you under a clock somewhere.

Hi Jim, first time I've looked at this site for quite a while. Going back to the tool room days is a very distant memory.
When the Morris closed I went to a small contract tool room, Powells in Cromwell Street. Stayed there for 4 yrs then went to the Jaguar in Radford. As you know that closed so I went back to Powells and stayed there for 20 yrs until I retired. I was a universal miller all my working life after apprenticeship. None of the other jobs compared with the Morris with regards to workmates.
I used to keep in touch with Dennis Frith if you remember him until he sadly passed away about 6 yrs ago.
How did your working life evolve after the Morris closed?
I've had a few joint problems, two knee replacements and two hip replacements which scuppered my golf fun but can't complain as I'm still here. Hope you're keeping well.
Do you see any of the old crowd? I did see Chinda had moved to Canada and Ken Walker off the shaping popped up on this site a while ago. I believe he is into photography.
As you said Rob is a very good administrator.
Still good to know some of us are still around, keep safe.
Regards, Bri
