Welcome from me, too, Doug. Smile I've just noticed that Myra has not visited this forum since she left that last message over 4 years, so it might be worth your while contacting her privately via her "Contact" button.... but first you'd need to enable your contact option by changing "Allow private contacts" to "Yes" in Your profile. It's worth pointing out that allowing contacts doesn't give other forum members your true email. That's why you have to use the forum to respond to messages sent to you.

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum. Often recall all our classmates from Courthouse Green, though sadly, some are no longer with us.

Hello Phil. Just rejoined the site after some 7 years, was previously logged in as Warwick40 but could not remember old email supplier config so now signed in as 8 Nuffield Road which is where I used to live four thousand years ago... or so it seems. Did you know anyone in that street? Mrs Sanderson was my next door neighbour, had Griffins shop, post office etc
Well 8 Nuffield Road I'm not too clear on the years in question but I had an uncle Bert and aunt Elsie Mathews who lived on the left of Nuffield Road. The number escapes me as does the road just further down that runs down to Sewall Highway. Two sons Tony & Robert and a daughter Christine. The family emigrated to Canada end of the 50s I think. Not had a lot of contact since but we did go over to Brampton quite a few years back to visit Tony who sadly died from a heart attack a few years ago but we are still in contact with his wife Joan. Spent quite a few hours playing with Tony on the large field that stretched from behind the house out to the Bell Green Rd.

On 20th May 2017 7:31pm, Derrickarthur said: Yes, it looks as if the numbering system for Bell Green Road was changed after 1929 so that it started at Navigation Bridge/Stoney Stanton Road because the Rowstron family always lived near the Golden Fleece. The above 1935 directory shows Albert Rowstron (senior) father of my mum's best friend Nellie Rowstron living at 327 Bell Green Road. I have attached a Christmas card that Nellie sent to my mum at Christmas 1930 and it gives the address as 327 Bell Green Road so the renumbering must have occurred after 1930. In my earlier post I said that the 1929 directory listed my grandfather at No 67 but the later one states 222. I always thought he had lived in the same house and this renumbering bears this out
My name is Raymond Rowstron Nellie Rowstron lived on Bell Green Road with Jessie Douglas Rowstron who died in his 30's. I lived in Sewall Highway, my Mum was Ena, Dad was Sydney, Sister Ena who sadly died aged 13 Brother Syd, Sister Mavis and Brother Brian who emigrated to Australia in 1970's. I attended Courthouse Green school.

Hi Helen, thanks for the welcome. What I am interested in is Courthouse Green Primary School in Sewall Highway, Coventry. I am 81 years old and was one of the first pupils to attend this school when it first opened. My brother Brian, 5 years younger than me also went to this infant school. He says there was a brass sign on the wall that read Bell Green Infants. I have no recollection of this and I doubt his memory. I have joined this forum to see if anyone knows of this brass sign and can enlighten this subject.

There is a topic for a school at Courthouse Green here but schools comments tend to be scattered because moderators don't really know for sure which schools are which. Primary, secondary and grammar schools can get muddled as can schools with more than one name.

This is basically a shout out to Derrickarthur regarding former posts. I've been going over some of my family history research and found that Mary Ann Sidwell, my great, great grandmother's address and where she died in 1932 was 224 Bell Green Road and by some convoluted path known only to the internet been directed to your post pointing out that your grandmother was at 222, her next door neighbour. I'm especially interested in Bell Green and Courthouse Green because I was brought up in the area so knew it very well. I love the coincidences that life throws up. Many thanks to Heathite for the smashing photos, really nostalgic for me.
