Thanks Anne for that info. When I contacted the council the archivist gave me that information, I did think it was odd because the dates didn't match but at least you've answered my question that it wasn't Keresley House! We are going to St Thomas's on Sunday so I'm going to ask the vicar if I can. Regards, Lynn

Have a look at the altar kneeler! My mum and I made that as I have mentioned on here before. I also made a couple of the other kneelers. I put a time capsule letter in one if them - wonder if it is still there - must have been about 40 years ago. Hope you find a picture of the Vicarage.

stpauls, the last time I heard bells as such was from St.Thomas's in Keresley the day I was married in 1961 - October and was like a summer's day. Nice to hear after being in Australia for 51 years. Rev. Baston even arranged the choir for us. Smile

Hello Dreamtime. Until around 2019, from my location on the boundary of Holbrooks, Pam & I would often sit out in our garden, listening to the St. Thomas bell practice on a Tuesday evening. I've not heard them since Covid.

I think the Vicar of St. Thomas Church in Keresley name was in fact 'BASTIN'. I knew it as such and was never corrected otherwise. I lived in High St in 1935 and attended the church. The Vicarage then was on the corner of Brownshill Green/Coundon Green Rds. As a matter of interest that may not be generally known, his father was the Chaplain of one of the Battleships lost in the Battle of Jutland in the 14/18 war, I was told. The bell practice was a favourite of mine to listen for the changes check. And sometimes to hear a far away similar peal over beyond the Old Hall and St Thomas, I never knew where though.

Yes, I think you are right Inyoni. I dug my marriage certificate out and I can't tell if its an 'i' or an 'o'. Just a 'scribble' as most signatures are. Thank you for picking me up on that. Thumbs up
