A photo from this morning of the Coventry Boy statue in Priory Street There is an inscription : This boy has no name but represents all boys of all time who are proud to belong here reaching out as always rough spun to close weave for family and city.

If its made of bronze, it won't be there much longer! Nuneaton had their famous Boer soldier statue stolen as it was bronze.

I love this statue. I'm proud that he represents me, my dad, my brothers, my uncles and my pals as we were. As long as he's there, we'll be there. For me that's the Coventry Evening Telegraph he's holding aloft, just as I did when I delivered them along the Bell Green Road and flogged the odd one outside the Morris gates.

I wonder if anyone looking at the Coventry Boy statue notice he wears only one shoe. I hadn't until I was going through some Go-Pro footage this afternoon.

There's a super write-up of this on the Coventry Society website, explaining how the bare foot represents his poor background, while the shoe represents his bright Coventry future after achieving his engineering (spanner in one hand) apprenticeship (certificate in his other hand). Like many things that we walk past, there's often a deeper meaning than we're aware of.

I can only look at this topic and think of the brave messenger boys that died for the good of Coventry during the second world war.

To me it says this is a Mans World, and women are not in the picture. it's going back 80 years to 1940 when we found out women were equal, they could work the machines, drive vehicles, fly planes. become top politicians, top engineers. More so in Coventry when a top fire-chief not injured got bomb-shock, taken to Hospital he was looked after by young female nurses who were in the same battle zone.
