Hello,
Yesterday, I did enjoyed this plated up salad at Leonardo in Nuneaton.

There is a story to this. I had visited the Lounge restaurant in Nuneaton, for a late lunch, but for the second time, the item that I wanted, they hadn't got. A few weeks ago when that happened, I did have an alternative, but yesterday I declined the more expensive alternative & decided to go to Leonardo.
The lounge restaurant sits at a higher meal price than contemporary restaurants, so I wonder if there is a deliberate lower cost meal avoidance going on. That isn't an accusation, as much as a thought. Once bitten, twice shy.
No such malarkey at Leonardo. The salad wasn't a mammoth meal. It was their basic ham salad costing £7.50.
It was fresh, crisp & beautifully presented. My pot of tea took the cost to less than £10.
I needed a nice salad after my extravaganza with burgers through the week.
Top marks for that. Brill, brill & brill.

Hello,
I'm sad to report that today I learnt that Masons cafe in Nuneaton, Coventry St. has closed for the last time. It closed a bit ago. Folk these days aren't drawn to liver & onions or cottage pie, which in winter was my delight. The last time that I was in Masons, it was looking tired, but it enjoyed a good run, starting before the millennium.

Neil, there is a Rainbow cafe in Lockhurst Lane in the 1950s but in a 1997 CET there is an article about a demolition of a 1960s built Rainbow Cafe on the corner of Gosford Street and Whitefriars Lane. Could be one of those.

A cafe in Holbrook Lane may have had a Keresley telephone number which would have started 33. The second hand clothes shop has a 5 figure phone number starting with a 2, does that mean it was somewhere more central?

Hobby!!!!
I was paid 10/6d, for a morning, doing the maximum hours for a fourteen year old but when fifteen I could do eight hours. That was a guinea. 21/-.
Yes Philip, I worked in a sweet shop in Jubilee Crescent in 1962 aged 14, all day Saturday and Sunday. Was told if I was ever questioned I only worked the morning or afternoon shift, I was also doing a paper round at the time !

Just saying that you were right that it was 15 Raglan Street. It's not obvious if the café was 13 or 11. At earlier dates 11 and 13 were already one location - number 11.
