Do I spy the Charles Ager shop, of old?

Do I spy the Charles Ager shop, of old? Yes Charles Ager was at number 6, here is a slightly later shot dated early 1930s, the postcard view I would date around mid-late 1920s. It's a shame it's hard to read the name of the shop next door and I've been unable to find a shop name that ties up from the directories. Maybe Heathite could help here?

The one next to Ager's in the photo is J H Dare but when it was I don't know.

Looking through the archives, there was a fur shop there around 1919, Dares were there in the 1920s and then Lawleys mid 1930s.

Anne, Many thanks for the info, I feel a bit foolish because I hadn't consulted my 1931-2 PJ Directory and there is J H Dare, tailor so I think the postcard view is early 1930s and then Lawley's china shop from c 1935. Incidentally where did you find the image? I wish it could be expanded so that I could read the shop front lettering more clearly. Also when you refer to archives, would that be directories or maybe adverts in the newspaper archive (I know you find the most fascinating info there). Best wishes, Geoff Thumbs up

Hi Geoff. The postcard is in a collection of Coventry stuff I have had lent to me which included postcards, 1940's newspapers and a couple of booklets. As I mentioned in another post most of the postcards are of views that we see in lots of places on the internet and books, that one was the only one I thought different. It just so happens Helen asked for a larger copy. If you send me your email address via my contact button I can send you a copy of that.

I think that I can see the M&S store that they opened on the other corner of Vicar Lane in 1929?
