Hi NormK, Wave On the face of it, I would agree with you, especially as they have opened a new multi-million building just a few yards away in Station St. The answer that I was given by a charity official, was that the cost of rectifying nearly every aspect of the original building was far greater. Changes in legislation regards the provision of accommodation as provided by the Salvation Army had forced this situation. I was also told that the Sallies have come out ok with this. A couple of years on, we will all find out. Thank you for your post. We shall keep watching. Thumbs up ps. I do wonder why the legislation for accommodation is so different for landlords, who let to tenants & the bodies who provide welfare, like the Sallies. Just a thought!

The new facility is actually in Harnall Lane West. I understand that the old building consisted of largely dormitory accommodation and has been replaced by single rooms.

I have found a 12 minute video of Coventry and in between the architect's models, there are great shots of Coventry, so detailed that I had to keep stopping the video to browse! I do hope it is of interest to all and not been duplicated. Bear with me though, I can't seem to link it Sad Coventry videos For some reason I couldn't select just the 'New Coventry Video', which is the fourth down, but hey, you can watch the others!

In the 60s/70s we demolished some properties in Much Park Street, I can remember walking through the attic space from one to the other. Only some of the buildings had to go, and they moved some others to Spon Street. Does anyone know which buildings these were? Cheers

Yes they were the buildings now used as Frank Harveys Hi-Fi, the 1450 Cafe Bar and Aspell & Company (jewellers).
