Good afternoon. The one time Wyken Canal Memories. My recent lunchtime visits to the Boat Inn, in Shilton Lane, have lifted my interest in the one time Wyken Arm, which formed an oxbow, from Woodway Lane to Aldermans Green. I understand that the Shilton Lane end was abandoned following a child drowning tragedy, in the sixties or early seventies. Only the section the far side of Wyken remains. The pub do not have any pictures. I wondered if any of our members have pictures or verbal memories. The iron bridge that crossed the canal at the now defunct junction, is now located crossing the Coventry Sherborne River in Spon End. In its heyday, it served the Alexandra coal pit. I'm so silly, oh so silly. I've found all the info I needed on our "Woodway Lane and Potters Green" thread. Wood way lane & Potters green.

Hi all, I'm enjoying a Wyken canal arm walkabout this morning, but as you might have guessed, I've just fallen into the Boat Inn. I have some pictures recorded off my phone, that literally serve to illustrate that there's little trace of the former canal loop & arm.

My maternal grandad, Les Bicknell, is buried in that graveyard. I used to run and ride my bike all around that part of the world - sixty+ years ago! Hump-bridges, clod banks, pubs (I wasn't really old enough, but I looked it!) - great memories.

Hi Jonnie, Just a few pictures of nothing left. Just a reminder that the Wyken arm, was attached to the Oxford canal, not the Coventry canal. The bridge that no longer is. The opposite direction. The line of the canal evident by the tree growth. From the pub carpark. There won't be any boats going along there anymore.

Hi all, I do wish you well as I'm sure that our forumites do, for your new lifestyle. I've never owned a narrow boat, but I enjoyed two decades of inland cruising. I even have my helmsmans cert. Hire companies required that particularly for river access. A chum of mine owned a boat moored near to Warwick, his greetings catch phrase was "Welcome aboard my sixty foot bungalow". Best wishes.

Hi Mick Strong. It is currently at a marina on the Grand Union Canal. With the summer coming I will be, as they say, a 'continuous cruiser', but may look for a mooring for the winter period. Hi Phil, Thank you, I know now who to turn to then if/when I need help
