You can see Crow Lane and the buildings pre-war to the west of the Rudge Works on this BFA image (though it's a bit far off).

I think Minster Road falls under Spon End still (happy to be corrected). Not sure what these were originally -

Just short of the arches in the 50s, on the left as shown was I'm sure a late open food takeaway. A regular late stop for my girlfriend and I at the weekend for a must have delicious pork batch.

Our forum friend SJT has asked me to post this here to anyone interested. Sadly I am away on my Summer Hols but would love to attend any future sessions. Thanks for the invites Sarah! Hello Neil, You may remember helping me with research for my novel focussing on the Weaver's Riot of 1831 (which will be published next year - finally!). I am visiting Coventry in a few weeks and I'm giving a talk at The Weaver's House and wanted to extend an invitation to you to attend. There are two sessions on Saturday 2 August: Saturday 2 Aug 12 noon Saturday 2 Aug 2.30pm There's very limited seating so you'd have to get in quick to book! Many thanks again for your excellent assistance! Kind regards Sarah

This is a super new find (to me anyway) again from Mark Tattam on FB. It's Moat Street looking west towards the junction with York Street (which is another rarely captured). I think that's the best ground level pic of Moat Street I've seen in its original layout. Adding here as we don't have a dedicated Moat Street thread (there are not enough images of it!) The Lamp on the wall looks like it might be from a Pub - the Bull Field Inn was on that corner though that looks a little further down on this map. Rob we don't have a pic of that on the Pubs thread if it is! Cheers

Yes, the Bull Field was the corner property, although a fairly long one. The "pub" looking lamp is definitely at least two buildings nearer to the photographer, but it really does look like the type of lamp that a pub would have. Can anyone think of any other sorts of property that might place a lamp outside?

Just a guess, but as Moat Street was part of the extensions outside the city centre in the early 1800s, it may be the first stirrings of civic street lighting. The street is a real mish mash of property dates and styles. The lamp may be there to show the entrance to Court 2 or just be a median point for the street? It does look like it was at the end of one style and the next, so maybe it spent a few years as the end of a row? While lamps were often attached to pubs, that was probably an older habit, maybe paid for and maintained by the pub itself as a form of advertising. I'll go out on a limb and say that that lamp wasn't a pub.

I was going to mention the same thing Helen, I am sure we have had pictures, usually of courts with the street lights attached to a house. There is another lamp on the far left hand corner

Another new post on FB and the thought was it was Hillfield's but I think that's the Rudge Works on the very left - I'm thinking possibly York Street? UPDATE - I think it's the rear of the row seen here on the right -
