Nice close up, Neil. I may have missed a description in a book somewhere but I have vague doubts that the gate is genuine and it possibly gained its stone cladding after the city gate houses were demolished. It is made up of such a mishmash of stone features that it looks like it was cobbled together around a wooden building. Even the colour of the stone isn't all the same.

"All at Sea" was on at the Opera House in May 1914.

I think it's wonderful when somebody (often Anne) can come up with another piece of the jigsaw and tada! we know more than the first bit of evidence. Big grin

Cliff B has pulled another couple of crackers out of the bag today. Smashing view of MPS, as very few of the Coach & Horses at no.37. Rob might be a better image for the pubs section?

Another cracker indeed, the best I've ever seen of either the gatehouse or the pub! Do you know where Cliff got the photo from, and if we have permission to publish it for the pub site?

It’s from Coventry Archives, Rob, so maybe we need to ask Ben/Victoria?

I was passed a few old motoring magazines the other day, and was delighted to read this article regarding the coachbuilder Charlesworth Bodies. © Classic & Sportscar Magazine. I'd not seen them before. The works were destroyed in the November 1940 bombings and the article states that only the works offices survived. I've referenced them before as it was their factory which backed on to the garden at the rear of Little Palace Yard where the stone arbour was moved from (possibly the one captured in the image of that on the LPS thread.)

Built over two large plots. One called Knaves Post Yard because the knaves post was stuck in a niche on the front wall of one of a pair of homes. The other was Broad Yard and housed the original Coach & Horses, plus many smaller businesses and homes. To the south was the Midland Brewery, itself built over a large plot. Each had extensive gardens. Sad

I haven't checked yet Neil but my guess is it's Star Yard off Much Park Street?

Not quite Star Yard but a yard further south. Zoom into this image on Much Park Street and the Star and go one row further on. Steeple in line with the right hand side of other leg of Star Yard.

Spot on, Neil Thumbs up I've no idea what it was. I was just looking for maps to see if it was marked.
