Here is a book I would recommend, having bought a second-hand copy for £2 recently. Very interesting articles.

I won't link to them but some very dodgy posters have popped up on Ebay that have Coventry somewhere in the picture. Who hasn't heard of Lady Covetiva? However the pictures are not Coventry and the same applies to the business' other city based art works. eg Big Ben/the Elizabeth tower being on its holidays in Leicester. I couldn't see from Ebay's complaint process if offering fake goods was breaking the rules, and the only process seemed to be open to some mug who'd bought one of these. I suspect that they're only printed up as people order them and have been generated by AI... though I'd have though that AI would do a better job. The description says 'Retro Vintage Travel' as if they were reprints of old tourism posters.

Hello,
Yes, very sad.
Chemical photography wasn't so easy to fake, but any electronic image can be modified. I believe the earliest photo deception that I recall involving a prosecution was a holiday brochure that pictured a newly built hotel in Ibiza, in all of its glory that at that time hadn't been built. It was the media printing & press industry that really developed electronic printing well before we all had electronic cameras & phones.
The old notion that a picture cannot lie, is now a lie.
Fake is all around us. Etsy similarly have had close calls with all manner of merchandise including clothes.
Archaeologists are constantly aware of fake. Piltdown man looms large in their minds.
I'm so sorry & feel heavy for your disappointment.

No need to feel sad Philip, except for some person who might buy one. These posters are in the style of paintings but there are some very old fake views out there. The opposite is also true, I've identified views that at first I very much doubted were genuine but were just odd locations. The picture below from Rob's collection shows a reasonable guess about how Greyfriars gate looked but the view and the buildings on the left half of the scene are completely fake. There is nothing new under the sun.

I'm so glad that you Helen were not a victim.
Of all the aspects of things that I detest in everyday occurrence, it is fake & lying.
I could go into depth on that, but that delves right into the heart of my faith, which is a no no on our forum.

You win some, you lose some. In the last 2 weeks I've lost out on a great Spon Street post card but won a fantastic Bayley Lane painting. While I lost on eBay and won at the auction, the eBay experience was much less stressful. Having to add the fees, VAT and postage costs to what you bid can be a nasty sting in the tail (one I was aware of). The biggest add on can be the postage, especially if the auction house won't send the thing in house. I haven't bid for many things at auction but I'd have assumed that because of the added costs and inconveniences that stuff would be automatically cheaper but there's no rhyme or reason to it (as anyone who has watched Bargain Hunt will know). I lost two pictures I bid on at auction (due to set minimums) and then they appeared for less than I'd bid on eBay plus free postage.

One must have is this book with Troughton sketches in. Old and battered as all of them seem to be but you rarely see this cheaper.
The other is harder to value here is a brochure for an exhibition in 1992. Not very old but some interesting familiar old paintings inside. Doesn't come up very often. Not sure about what it's worth to anyone else.

As far as I know Diesel he only sketched Coventry. He wasn't an artist, even if he was a reasonable amateur. There must be several hundred of them.

An odd one. A saints day card, modern I'm assuming - here. I'm not suggesting you buy it but it's interesting to know that she does have a saints day.
Translated it says -
St. Osburga of Coventry
March 30
Very little is known about her life. It is said that she was the first abbess of the convent founded in Coventry by Canute, king of Denmark and Mercia from 1015 and of all England from 1016 to 1035. In 1410, the clergy and people of Coventry requested a feast in her honor because her tomb had long been an object of worship and the site of many miracles.
PRAYER
O Lord, grant that through the intercession of your saints, humanity may return to the practice of the Christian faith for a new evangelisation in this third millennium, to the praise and glory of your name and the triumph of the Church. Amen.
