Does anyone remember the name of the dairy that was at the Eastern Green end of Broad Land. It was near Woodlands School but a little closer towards the city.

Gosh, I remember going on a school visit to this dairy when I was at Junior school (Sir Henry Parkes) - must have been around 1958!

Two of my school friends had a Sunday job there, helping with deliveries. The owner's son had a TR2 and used to drive round roundabouts on two wheels, four up (yes, two sitting on the boot lid with their feet behind the seats!).

Hi Everyone, Does anyone know the name of the dairy that was on Gulson Road in the 50's or even better have a picture of it? It's my Nan and Grandads diamond wedding anniversary in June and I'm tring to make a book of their life for them. The only information I have to go on is ... They met in the late 40's (1948) while working at Greenies (or Mr Greens?) farm, doing a milkround together on their horse and cart. I am led to believe that "Mr Green owned the milk company in coventry, was on the milkboard and the milk place ended up in Gulson Road where they had a bottling factory." Nan had a milkround there until about 1955 and this is the only photo that they have of this period of their life. Any help, information and photos of the factory or farm would be greatly appreciated. I've seen some posts on other topics from people with a lot of knowledge of this area so I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Kerry

It belonged to the Co-Op although non Co-Op milkmen were also allowed to buy crates of milk from there.

As I remember it in the 50's it was the Midland Counties Dairy. The big Co-op dairy was in Swan Lane. Prior to that it may have belonged to Harold Green, who had a big farm at Walsgrave. Alan

Yes, it probably was in the 60s and 70s too. I've no idea what made me think it was the Co-Op? All our milk came from there too!

Fred Cadden remembers Midland Counties, Harper Road, my brother Terry Cadden worked there as wholesale delivery in 1957, I myself worked at the Walsgrave depot as retail delivery man, the Ansty and Bulkington round in 1960.

The big problem with Midland Counties Dairy was that the lorries, laden with milk crates, would reverse into the narrow opening to the loading bay, holding up the traffic in Gulson Road. It could be very annoying if you were at the front of the top deck of an Inner Circle bus.

Wow, thank you everyone! I have a bit more information now. My Grandad started work on Harold Greens Farm in Walsgrave in 1939. He moved to the milk round and my Nan started in 1948. She finished her milk round in 1954 when her 2nd child was born. I believe that their milk round was from the farm but Harold Green also bought the factory in Gulson Road, that bottled milk, which was later bought out by Midland County Dairies. I'm not sure when but I'm guessing some time in the 50's. Thank you all again for your help and memories. Does anyone know where I could get some photos of the factory, farm, Gulson Rd or Walsgrave in the 40's/50's?? Thank you.
