Cox Street

As there does not appear to be a dedicated Cox Street thread - this one deserved a special spot as new to me - 1930ish?

It is a very good picture but I'm fairly sure that it's post war.

I understand your confusion Helen but Poole's warehouse has yet to be constructed on the corner of Grove Street which places it before 1939. Also many of the buildings in the picture were badly bombed and had been cleared by 1946.

I believe the truck in the foreground was registered in early 1930 at the latest and I don't think would have been more than 10 years old when pictured. It is a Nelson's Cement vehicle from the Stratford area, the company ceasing to trade in the 1940's. Therefore this also supports the date of the picture probably being in the mid 1930's.

Here's a scarce image looking north over to Cox Street - not many images of those buildings on the west side pre-blitz/Uni.

Officially opened on 14 May 2021, filmed on 15 May 2021 with some scenes from the nearby 'Edible Garden' included. All in all a nice initiative from Coventry University in my opinion.

Yep go with that one BJ, I like it, like it a lot. Won't be long before it looks like a toilet though after its been abused for a few months.

Just watched the video and it looks good but where are the people? I know it has only just opened but don't folk want to see it.

I filmed it before 9am I imagine students will use it, it's right next to The Hub which I think is the main 'on campus' entertainment centre & I guess it will be nice for lunch breaks in good weather. Not sure how many 'locals' will use it to be honest.
